Dear Elena March 2, 2006

Through Tim Bray, I saw a link to the Dear Elena page, which is written by a father who recently lost his daughter.  It’s heart-breaking and uplifting all at the same time.

Housekeeping February 24, 2006

Lots of blog housekeeping in the last couple days, namely I have split the prior posts into two blogs – this one will now be personal stuff only. I’ve moved all the technical stuff that was on here before off to the brand new Pure Danger Tech blog.

Also, I’ve changed themes here to a theme that just came out. I find it calming but Mary said it doesn’t reflect my life right now. She said it should have “sharp knives” or something. :) So, maybe I’ll try to find one like that….

Movie: Brothers Grimm January 16, 2006

We watched The Brothers Grimm last night and I’d say we were underwhelmed. Actually, we didn’t even finish watching it.

When I first heard about this movie it sounded like an awesome project as the Grimm tales are a rich set of material to mine and Terry Gilliam, one of my favorite directors, was directing. Somehow it just didn’t come together. Seemed to move really slowly, characters were uninteresting, and the special effects were cheesy looking.

For all that, there was some nice imagery here and there. You can count on Terry to always have some good shots that are large spaces, filled with shadows, fog, and hints of interesting things. I wish this one had turned out a little better.

Starting to form January 15, 2006

Slowly, in the dust and ashes of the old baconwrapped.com web site, the new site begins to take form.

I’ve switched hosting providers to Yahoo, which was ridiculously easy and a lot cheaper and more functional than my old host. I’ve spent way, way too much time over the last week trying to figure out what the hell I’m doing and perhaps more importantly what I want to do.

But, decisions have been made for now and I am in the process of putting this thing together, primarily with WordPress. So far, WordPress is good. I dig it. Had to look through a few hundred themes before I decided on one, but choice is good. I have to give kudos to Yahoo as well – their web site stuff is better than I would dare to expect from a hosting provider knitting together dozens of programs to provide a reasonable user experience, even for people less knowledgable than I (if such people exist).
