Wristbands for SXSW went on sale today and my parents stood in line all afternoon and came through big time! THANK YOU!!! So, looks like we will be wristband-enabled for our SXSW trip in a couple weeks.

Recently, Shag posted a slew of Nick pictures. Well, allow me to retort. I have here my own set of pictures to honor not only Nick, but Chris as well, whose birthday starts 15 minutes from right now.

Time to potty February 20, 2007

Filed under: family — Alex @ 3:33 pm

We took the plunge this weekend and started potty training Truman. Ah, I’d almost forgotten the joy of wet underpants. Actually, just saying “underpants” a lot is pretty fun. Seriously, he’s doing really great and is very enthusiastic about the whole process. I even had the guts to take him to the mall yesterday and we made it without incident.

Mary went out and got a whole mess of underpants (see how fun that is) for him to get excited about wearing. We got Spiderman, Batman, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He’d never heard of TMNT before and wanted to know what they do. The shortest possible explanation I could come up with was “they fight bad guys”, which covers pretty much half the cartoons out there. Actually, Truman classifies movies and TV shows as “has bad guys” and “doesn’t have bad guys” because the bad guys often scare him. So, something like “Backyardigans” or “Sesame Street”, etc are “no bad guys”. But pretty much any Disney movie has at least some bad guy.

Often before bed we let the kiddos have “naked time”, which is really “almost naked time” as they still have to wear underpants (see?). Truman looked really really cute running around in his Spiderman underpants. He was cracking us up.

Penn Radio

Filed under: podcast, recommendation — Alex @ 3:23 pm

My favorite podcast find lately is Penn Radio, a daily 1 hour radio show done by Penn Jillette of Penn&Teller. If you’re interested in a radio show that’s a little bit different, check it out. Sometimes they mostly take calls for an hour, sometimes they have a guest and take no calls, sometimes some of both.

I enjoy Penn immensely as an interviewer / host. He is one of those guys that knows a little about everything (or at least is willing to pretend in interesting ways) and he has a very natural way of guiding an interview or a caller. He also seems like someone very receptive to ideas and discussion while still maintaining a respect for the other person.

Anyhow, give it a shot if you’re interested. You can find the podcast on iTunes too if that’s how you roll.

MMW children’s album February 14, 2007

Filed under: music — Alex @ 12:02 pm

Ran across some interesting news lately that Medeski, Martin, and Wood will be releasing a children’s album early this year called “Let’s Go Everywhere”. It will be released on a new label called Little Monster Records.

You can check out a jamming track from the album at Feed Me Good Tunes, one of my favorite music blogs. Here’s the direct mp3 link.
