Bad transition July 31, 2006

Filed under: funny, music — Alex @ 1:40 pm

I’m shuffling on iTunes right now and experienced one of worst transitions ever:

“Killing in the Name Of” by Rage Against the Machine ==> “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” by the Beatles

Big boy bed July 29, 2006

Filed under: family — Alex @ 10:03 pm

Truman got his first big boy bed today – a mattress and box springs on the floor.  He watched me bring it up and when I finally dropped the mattress on it he said “wow….” like it was an amazing sight.  He seems pretty excited about it.

When it came time for his nap, I sat him in his bed and we had a little talk about how he was getting a big boy bed because he was a big boy and how big boys stayed in their bed and room during nap time.  Etc etc.  At the end, I said “ok?”.  He looked me right in the eye and said “no” and took off for our room.  Stinker!!

He wasn’t much better at night time but he did eventually calm down and go to sleep.  I’m sure there will be a learning period before he knows what to do.  Ella used to be really good but then in the middle of the night we would hear her in the hall clomping around in Mary’s shoes.  :)

Stories July 27, 2006

Ella and Tru continue to be fairly fascinated with Wizard of Oz lately. The other night I was looking at the Wizard of Oz website with Truman and after a while he said quietly and quite seriously “I love these people”. Cracked me up.

Truman’s big joke lately is to say that he’s going to poop in the bathtub. Then he cracks up laughing. “I poop bathtub….ha..ha.ha..ha”.

Ella’s been drawing some really cool pictures lately. They mostly start with spirals, often multiple interlocking spirals and then get colored over selectively from there. She’s been into hopping and learning hopscotch too.

In Beck news, he’s starting to smile occasionally. He’s eating a lot and starting to go a little longer between feedings. We went and looked up Ella and Truman and they both started sleeping a long shift at night around 8-9 weeks so hopefully that’s not far away.

Cards fan hit during storm July 24, 2006

Filed under: web — Alex @ 12:48 pm

Check out this video of someone getting hit by a trash can in strong winds at Busch Stadium last week. I think I heard on the news that there were straight-line winds of something like 90 mph. The shot is inside Busch Stadium (I think on the southwest corner?) and there are crowds of people looking outside. A woman is walking across when a trash can comes in at a high rate of speed and nails her. Hope she was ok.

Nana stories July 23, 2006

Filed under: family — Alex @ 7:21 pm

I talked to my Nana tonight; she’s still without power after the storms the other night, but doing ok. Her friend close by has her power back on so she’ll be over there most of the time I think. She’s been getting ice from a neighbor every day to keep a few things like milk and eggs cold. Yesterday she wanted an egg so she went outside, hooked up the hose first (just in case), gathered sticks, made a fire, and fried her egg in a skillet. So, she seems to be hanging in there pretty well for a 91 year old.

We started talking somehow about early memories. I told her a story I remember from when we lived in an apartment right after we moved to St. Louis – I was probably 3. I went to the grocery store with my dad and I swiped a Tootsie Roll from one of those candy bins and after we got home I ate it. Never got caught but I felt so guilty I never stole anything again. The funny thing is that it was probably a better lesson than if I’d gotten caught.

Nana told me a story from when she was still in Texas, probably first grade. She and Adam tried to steal a wooden box of big chalk (in sawdust) that they loved. They thought no one was in the building but someone came and they hid behind a desk until they left. In the end, they actually left the chalk but they both still feel guity about it to this day.
